Role Overview:
As a Phone and Chat Support Volunteer for I Am Open, you’ll be the reassuring voice and empathetic presence for individuals seeking help during times of crisis. This role involves responding to calls and messages, offering clear and compassionate assistance to those in need. You’ll be a direct connection to resources, helping to keep communication lines open, organized, and responsive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Information and Assistance: Answer calls and chats to guide individuals to the resources and support they need, including shelter locations, food distribution sites, and other essential services.
- Stay Calm and Empathetic: Offer a calm, understanding voice to individuals who may be in high-stress situations, providing them with reliable and patient support.
- Connect to Additional Resources: Identify when a caller or user may need specialized help and direct them to appropriate contacts, support organizations, or team members.
- Record and Relay Information: Log important details from conversations to ensure accurate, up-to-date information is shared with our team and updated on our platform.
- Assist in Resource Verification: Gather new information or updates shared by callers, helping to keep our platform accurate and relevant.
